OV2640 is a 1/4-inch CMOS UXGA (1632*1232) image sensor produced by OV (OmniVision), which is small in size and low in operating voltage, and provides all the functions of a single-chip UXGA camera and image processor. The product UXGA image up to 15 frames per second (SVGA up to 30 frames, CIF up to 60 frames), the user can fully control the image quality, data format and transmission method, all image processing functions including gamma curve, white balance, contrast, chroma, etc. can be programmed through the SCCB interface. OmniVision image sensors apply unique sensor technology to improve image quality by reducing or eliminating optical or electronic defects such as fixed pattern noise, smearing, and floating, resulting in clear and stable color images.

Why OV2640 is an Excellent Sensor

Compared to the latest Huawei or iPhone camera, OV2640 is not fancy at all in terms of the sensor format, resolution, the image quality.

But it doesn’t bother making the OV2640 to be an excellent image sensor.

The OV2640 is a SOC sensor that has an on-chip ISP that can do auto-exposure, auto-white balance in such a small sensor package to represent a nice image.
